Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum/阿德勒天文宇航馆

Time: July 18, 2005
Place: Museum Campus, Chicago, IL

Adler Planetarium is the first planetarium in America. The exhibits didn't attract me much, while the Sky Theater was of a bit fun. The star sky above Chicago that night was shown on the vault screen, and an astronomer told you how to find out the Big Dipper, the North Star and constellations like the Great Bear. Another highlight is Galileo's Café, which provides an unforgettable view of Chicago skyline.

Ancient Chinses Observatory/古观星台

I'm interested in this picture not only because of being proud of my ancestors' accomplishment, but also because it's a place I did visit with Piggy:) See below, no Photoshop, guaranteed!

BTW, Gao Cheng, "告城" in Chinese, is 12km (7.5 mi) southeast to Dengfeng, which is famous for Shaolin Temple. This tower, built in Yuan Dynasty, is the earlist that is well preserved till now.

The State Capitol is the center of the city of Madison, the capital of Wisconsin state. It's said all buildings in downtown Madison, built or to be built, should be no taller than Capitol. Some facts about Capitol can be found here: http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/capfacts/history.html

Romantic and huge are among the words in my mind upon arrival at the campus of UW-Madison in an evening. Lake Mendota is beautiful as well as the buildings, both in day and in night.

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) /伊利诺斯大学芝加哥分校

Time: July 14, 2005

There are many universities and colleges located at downtown Chicago, which is amazing. Among them, UIC is the best known. Ennn, Stanley R. Pliska is right there.

Following are some buildings and scenes on UIC campus.

Standing on the campus you'll have a great view of skyscrapers at downtown Chicago.

The University of Chicago/芝加哥大学

Time: July 15, 2005
Place: Hyde Park, Chicago, IL

Even after the visit, I don't know yet if there is a park named "Hyde". What I know is that it's a place I look forward to because, to some extend, Hyde Park is an alias of the University of Chicago.

U-505 /二战德国潜艇

It's real -- the only German submarine in US, and now a national memorial to the 55,000 American sailors who died in WWI and WWII. It's on exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry, about one mile east to the university.

The Art Institute of Chicago/芝加哥艺术学院
